Stress is healthy but too much stress can cause stress. One in ten working people suffer from burnout. Many experts believe that stress is a serious threat to health.

Stress in America
“America’s number one health problem” is the title of an article published by the American Institute of Stress. The article claims that it is not cancer or AIDS the greatest threat to health, but stress. According to the article 75 to 90 percent of the people went to the doctor with stress. Antidepressants and anxiety medication are taking ¼ of all prescriptions in America at his expense. 28% of households in America are taking medication at home to reduce stress.

Stress Causes
It is no exaggeration to say that stress has become an important factor in modern life. According to the American Consumer the work is the main cause of stress and problems in adults, with around 39%. In second place it is the family with 30%. Then there are factors such as health (10%), concern for the economy (9%) and concern about international conflict and terrorism (4%). (more…)

Disabled People Can Live A Normal Life

Thousands of disabled people throughout the world manage to live a normal life each and every day. While you may see these people as heroes of sorts, to them, they are simply doing the same thing you are – trying to get through the day.

Disabled individuals can cook, clean, play sports, work, and learn to drive. They also have and raise healthy children. The only difference is that they may need to go about doing these things in a non-conventional way. This may include having special tools and certain accommodations to help them get the job done.

Daily tasks may not be as easy for a disabled person, but they learn and adapt ways to get things done. They are determined to live a normal life, and that determination allows them to do just that. Technological advances have made learning easier for a number of children living with physical impairments. Many schools with special needs children are turning to innovative technology that allows children with limited function and mobility to showcase their abilities. Such technological feats include voice to text programs that allow children to speak their thoughts and voice to text translators capture one’s words and convert them to text. This is ideal for children who are unable to write due to Cerebral Palsy, Multiple sclerosis, or any other health issue that makes writing difficult or impossible. Students who are blind or have limited sight are now able to read the printed word thanks to an innovative Braille printer. This printer converts written words in to Braille dots. Full life, but in silence

Physical disabilities such as deafness can be especially difficult for people.

Caring for a disabled baby and child

The arrival of a disabled baby can be very challenging especially for a family that already has children. As parents come to terms with what will be required for caring for a disabled baby and child, the siblings of the baby will also experience many emotions.

Though each family and situation is different and complex there are a few things that parents can do to help a child come to terms with having a disabled sibling.

To handle the situation, children require increasing amounts of information about their disabled brother or sister. The information given to a sibling will depend on their age and understanding. Pre schoolers may require reassurance that they did not cause their sibling’s disability and that the disability cannot be caught as a tummy bug can. Medical equipment required by a disabled child can be frightening for a pre-schooler and if possible the equipment should not be ignored, instead explain it to the preschooler and if possible decorate it (possibly with stickers or tinsel) so that it is not so frightening to look at.
